Warriors
Liam
On April 16, 2020, Liam, a precious angel was born. At eight weeks old, Liam was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Rhabdomyosarcoma. Two weeks later, we started treatment at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Liam was on intense chemotherapy for 11 months straight, where he received triple doses of chemotherapy on a weekly basis. In addition to his chemotherapy, he underwent six weeks of 30 fractions of proton radiation, countless blood & platelet transfusions, never-ending ER visits and admissions. On May 27, 2021, Liam was in remission.
Two short months later, Liam relapsed. The cancer came back, and it came back with a vengeance. It spread to his eye, neck, cheek, arms, legs, chest, and two spots in his brain. On September 2, 2021, we were told Liam was terminal. As a parent, you never want to hear those words. We were told, “we will do everything we can to keep his cancer ‘at bay’ and give you as much time as we can with Liam”. I didn’t want to believe this news, so I reached out to St. Jude, MD Anderson, Sloan, Hackensack, and Boston Childrens Hospital. Again, we were told, by all the hospitals, Liam is terminal. They didn’t know how much time we had left, and we knew we had to keep fighting.
Liam’s journey continued and the fight got harder. Although the battle was brutal, Liam’s smile, energy and personality lit up a room. Liam was a feisty little lover. Liam was resilient. Liam was a fighter. Liam means strong willed warrior which fit him perfectly. Nothing stopped Liam. He was full of life even though he fought for his life every day. He taught me and all those that surrounded him to not take life for granted, to live in the moment, to smile even when life doesn’t turn out the way you hoped it would, to love, and how to fight.
Liam had a love for dinosaurs and all types of animals. He LOVED to run and go to the park. It didn’t matter how sick Liam was, he would keep going. I always say, fight like a kid, because kids are so strong and resilient.
On August 17, 2023, God called Liam home. Our precious angel will forever live in our hearts, and we will continue to carry on his legacy and share his life and journey with everyone around us.
